PICK OF THE DAY
There She Goes
BBC2, 9.30pm
Miraculously avoiding cloying sentimentality, the first series of this comedy drama was a refreshingly honest view of family life with a child who has severe learning disabilities, showing parents Simon and Emily (David Tennant and Jessica Hynes, right) bringing up Rosie as a newborn and aged nine.
For this second series we jump back and forth between Rosie as a three-yearold and at the age of 11 (in a brilliant performance by Miley Locke, right).
Most of the story is told in the more recent period, starting with a visit to the library, during which the parents can barely keep control as Rosie runs amok. Back in the past, Simon and Emily are coming to terms with a doctor’s diagnosis.
This is an engaging, humorous and heartfelt portrayal of a loving family learning to adapt. ★★★★★
