We must resist march of the woke warriors

-

In your newspaper last week, there was page after page of very worrying journalism involving a wide range of subjects and people. The common theme was that some very woke people are trying to destroy the reasonable relationships human of all colours and creeds have achieved over the centuries. They want to torpedo so many aspects of life – and what we can do or say – in the name of political correctness.

We are free in Britain and should be able to speak our minds without fear. This is one of the reasons why millions have made the journey to our shores. Ian Green, Malvern

Where is it all going to end? We have a woke generation apologising for copying fashions from other countries and, unbelievably, food magazines being taken to task for appropriating foreign recipes. Maybe we should take note of the Oscar Wilde quote: ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’ Rosemary Hosking, Hackleton, Northamptonshire

Free speech in this country is being stifled and unless we all wake up to that fact and stand up to defend it, we will be ruled by a tiny minority of thought police. Mick Ferrie, Mawnan Smith, Cornwall

Why should we bother learning about our fellow humans’ ways of life if we can’t also take part in them and enjoy them? It appears there is a way to feel offended at everything in these silly times. The next time an Indian person cooks sausages, should I feel affronted that he is appropriating British culinary culture? V. Brown, York

Douglas Murray is absolutely right to raise the point that Ministers and police chiefs are hiding behind the sofa while anarchy prevails. I can assure him that the silent majority who lent Boris Johnson their votes are seething at being constantly bombarded across the airwaves by only one voice – the intolerant liberal Left. Paul Ruane, Cannington, Somerset

It is all very well for the Home Secretary and police chiefs to be appalled and condemn the levels of violence we are seeing on the streets of the UK. Surely it would be more positive to give the police the green light to be more assertive. Police on duty should be impartial to whatever situation they are dealing with. Ian Wilson, Bromborough, Wirral

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has suggested that some statues in his cathedral may have to be removed. By this token, maybe he should start at the

Book Of Genesis and work through the entire Bible highlighting all perceived injustices he feels should now be atoned for. A.C. Thompson, Dungannon, County Tyrone

On a demonstration, I’d like to display a large banner saying: ‘Down with woke – it’s just a joke.’ C. Dowell, Marston Green, West Midlands
