‘Friendly fire from the other half has kept me sharp’

CRAIG GORDON has been fielding pot shots from his partner in order to keep his reflexes sharp.

A free agent after his contract with Celtic expired on June 10, the 37-year-old diligently followed his own training regime in advance of signing for Hearts last week.

Aside from the gruelling gym and bike work, he’s also spent time diving around the garden of his Edinburgh home as Summer, herself a former footballer, fires the ball at him. He said: ‘She used to play for Norwich City girls and captain her high school team, so she’s not too bad actually.

‘She’s had a few shots into the portable goals out the back and has even managed a few goals. I’m sure she’ll be delighted I have mentioned that!

‘It’s not the same as getting out there training, but I do feel as if I am in good shape and ready to go.’
