HARD FOR FARKE TO SAY SORRY AS ANTONIO FOURSOME CONFIRMS DROP FOR CANARIES

-

DANIEL FARKE apologised to Norwich fans after their seemingly inevitable relegation was confirmed by a thumping 4-0 home defeat to West Ham.

All four goals were scored for the visitors by in-form striker Michail Antonio, including a penalty.

Farke claimed his team began the season with just a five-per-cent chance of staying up after barely spending a penny following their promotion last season.

And too often this season, he accepted, they have been involved in games that have ended up being men against boys.

The loss that hammered the final nail in their coffin was the latest example and Farke said: ‘I feel really sorry especially for our supporters and everyone connected with this amazing club that we were not able to work another miracle.

‘We can only apologise for that. They deserve all the miracles and joy we can bring them. It’s a disappointing day.

Hammers boss David Moyes was pleased with a ‘big win’ for his side and praised a superb performance from four-goal Antonio.

Meanwhile, Troy Deeney scored two second-half penalties as Watford came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1 at home and boost survival hopes.

Steve Bruce’s men had deservedly grabbed the lead midway through the first half when Dwight Gayle bundled home and the Magpies’ boss fumed at the award of both spot-kicks.

‘I’m not one to make excuses but to lose games on those big decisions is difficult to accept,’ said Bruce.
