Raged! How David Tennant’s fed-up kids managed to upstage their parents during lockdown TV show
IT was the Zoom-style TV series that lifted the nation’s spirits during last year’s first lockdown.
David Tennant’s comedy Staged, shot in his own house using video-conferencing technology, found humour in the unusual new world of being forced to stay at home.
But while Staged proved a massive hit with viewers, the Scottish star has now revealed the making of the second series did not go down well with his children.
With new episodes now available on the BBC, Tennant, who turns 50 in April, said: ‘I think they find it slightly risible that mum and dad are making a TV show from
‘I cannot tell you how little the children care about it’
the house and are mostly just annoyed when we tell them to be quiet for a take.’
Tennant appears in the show with his wife Georgia, 36. The couple met filming Dr Who and married in 2011.
Between takes on the latest episodes they had to juggle the needs of their five children – Ty, 18, Olive, 9, Wilfred, 7, Doris, 5, and one-year-old Birdie.
Tennant said: ‘The scenes between Georgia and myself had to be fitted in around school drop-offs, baby naps and unloading the dishwasher.
‘We really enjoyed making Staged together and we laugh a lot – perhaps it’s sleep deprivation.’
Georgia added: ‘I cannot tell you how little the children care about what we do.’
The first series, which also stars Michael Sheen and his wife Anna Lundberg, featured cameos from Dame Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson. Special guests this time include Sir Michael Palin, Ewan McGregor, Whoopi Goldberg, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and actor Simon Pegg.
Tennant added: ‘If you had told me a year ago that I’d be making a series for BBC One inside our house, without a crew, wearing my own clothes and being responsible for turning the camera on and off, I would have found it implausible.’
