Football fans lift the title ... for being the stupidest Covidiots in Scotland!
HUNDREDS of Rangers fans broke lockdown rules yesterday to gather outside Ibrox Stadium.
Supporters set off flares and ignored social distancing advice as they celebrated the Glasgow club being one point away from taking the Scottish Premiership title.
It comes only two weeks after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told football to get its ‘house in order’, after allegations five Rangers players attended a house party which was broken up by police.
Yesterday, Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland said: ‘All gatherings are currently prohibited. We urge members of the public to comply with these restrictions.’
No arrests were made but police ‘engaged with those present to explain and encourage compliance with restrictions’, the force said.
Public gatherings are banned and only two people from two households can meet outdoors.
Following their win against St Mirren yesterday, Rangers can lift the league title today for the first time in ten years if Celtic drop points against Dundee United.
The Blues Brothers Rangers and Linfield FC fan group posted videos of the Ibrox gathering on Twitter.
One fan said: ‘Ten years [of] watching our rivals win the lot has been hard to take... we’d expect celebrations to be bigger when Rangers officially do win the title.’
A supporter at Ibrox yesterday said: ‘It’s been such a long time since we won the league.’
Asked about the Covid restrictions, he said: ‘It’s up to everyone themselves and how they feel on the ongoing situation.’
