A FANTASTIC FOUR PROPEL QUEENS INTO DREAMLAND

-

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH moved into the promotion play-off places after coming from 2-0 down to defeat Arbroath 4-2 at Gayfield yesterday.

Dick Campbell’s Arbroath were looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches and made the perfect start when Jack Hamilton fired them ahead after 11 minutes.

Michael McKenna doubled the lead for Arbroath from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute. But Allan Johnston’s Queens hit back in style.

Ayo Obileye pulled one back on 33 minutes before Connor Shields levelled five minutes later. The visitors completed the comeback just before half-time when on-loan Rangers striker Dapo Mebude tapped home at the back post.

Arbroath were stunned and the part-timers had no response after the break. Obileye netted his second and Queens’ fourth in the 50th minute to seal a memorable win for the Dumfries club.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Ayr United leapfrogged Morton into eighth place after winning

2-0 at Cappielow.

Cammy Smith’s second-half brace was enough for Ayr, who are managerless after parting company with Mark Kerr last week.

Following an uninspiring first half, Ayr seized control and Smith knocked home Aaron Muirhead’s header back across goal on 55 minutes.

The visitors doubled their lead with three minutes left as Smith buried a half-volley from eight yards after good work from Michael Moffat.

Alloa stay rooted to the foot of the table despite a 1-1 draw against Inverness Caley Thistle.

Innes Cameron opened the scoring for Alloa on 17 minutes but it was swiftly cancelled out by Nikolay Todorov.
