WASPS BUZZ AS QUEENS HAVE A REAL OFF DAY

-

ALLOA ended a run of five games without a win against nine-man Queens to close to within four points of safety at the bottom of the Championship.

Wasps boss Peter Grant is confident his team can beat the drop and said: ‘We deserved the win. We have everything to play for and it is still in our hands.’

Queens took the lead after just 11 minutes. Connor Shields got in behind the Wasps defence to cut the ball back to Dapo

Mebude who volleyed home.

Alloa equalised nine minutes later when Innes Cameron’s cross found Innes Murray eight yards out and he tapped into an empty net. But the visitors went behind again on 37 minutes when Shields’ magnificent cross found Euan East, who headed in.

But Alloa showed their battling spirit and Lee Connolly cracked home a superb goal to make it 2-2 a minute before the interval.

Moments later, Queens were down to 10 when Ayo Obileye saw a straight red for a mistimed challenge on Raymond Grant.

Alloa had the chance to go in front in 53 minutes after Willie Gibson handled a Grant cross, but Andy Graham’s spot-kick was saved by Rohan Ferguson.

However, substitute Liam Buchanan got their winner 13 minutes from time when he drilled the ball past Ferguson.

Four minutes from time, Queens’ Rhys McCabe was sent off for lashing out at Murray and Palmerston boss Allan Johnston was sent to the stand at the same time by referee Greg Aitken.

Queens assistant boss Sandy Clark said: ‘Greg Aitken is a top referee, but he didn’t have the best game in the world today.’
