5p Co-op or £5,000 Chanel ... Kate has bags of style

- By Molly Clayton

SHE’S graced the catwalk for 30 years in creations costing the earth, but Kate Moss still looks great racing around on errands with a 5p plastic bag.

The 47-year-old supermodel was spotted outside her local Co-op in the Cotswolds last week, pairing a £5,000 Chanel handbag with a carrier bag for her groceries.

In velvet blazer, floral shirt, blue jeans and black boots, the masked model picked up a few items while her car was parked on a petrol station forecourt.

Her classic black Chanel quilted bag is one of the French luxury brand’s most iconic products, its design refreshed by fashion icon

Karl Lagerfeld in 1983. Created by Gabrielle Chanel in 1955, it was claimed to be the first bag for women to come with a shoulder strap. It remains the fashion house’s best-selling bag.

Kate has spent much of the pandemic lockdown at her cottage in the Cotswolds, with her long-term partner Count Nikolai von Bismarck, 34, daughter Lila Grace, 18, and her half-sister Lottie Moss, 23, who has since jetted off to the US to pursue her career.

The celebrity barely merited a glance from customers at the Coop,

with most locals used to seeing Kate enjoying a walk or visit to the shops during lockdown.

‘I think everyone’s really quite used to seeing her out and about,’ said one who saw her on Friday. ‘I must say that the lockdown doesn’t seem to have done her any harm. She looked so fresh-faced and healthy, it’s amazing how good she looks. Getting older doesn’t seem to affect her at all.’

Since she was recruited as a model in 1988 at the age of 14, Kate has been in the vanguard of many new fashion trends but it’s unlikely that a carrier bag will be the next must-have for fashionistas.
