Only a new revolution in Russia can crush Putin’s war

-

Have the Russian people learnt nothing from what happened in 1939 when an unbalanced maniac decided to invade Poland, and from the dreadful consequences that followed for Russia and the rest of the world? The good Russian people should rise up and stop Putin and hand him over to stand trial for war crimes.

David Gordon, Romiley, Cheshire

Well done The Mail on Sunday for your appeal to help the beleaguered Ukrainian people, but our Government could do its bit too. Why not impose a levy on the billions of pounds of frozen assets of Putin and his cronies and donate it to the Ukrainian charities, then initiate UN war crimes actions against them and their military commanders? Roy Daniels, Luton

Russia is ramping up attacks on Ukraine and its civilians, so surely now is the time for the West to protect them by enforcing a no-fly zone. You have to stand up to Putin’s bullying tactics. The West is just looking the other way.

J. Mckie, Gateshead

I am so proud of the way nations have come together, with nothing more than economic sanctions, to admonish and penalise Putin. A militaristic response would have almost certainly started World War Three, resulting in millions of deaths, so an escalating degree of sanctions, and making Russia a veritable pariah in as many ways as can be envisaged, must be the way forward.

Emma Sydney, Manchester

It was inevitable a nuclear power would fall into the hands of a madman. It is now obvious the UN and other international bodies are completely ineffective in dealing with them. Putin flagged up what he intended to do but everyone seemed caught on the wrong foot when he did it. I have never known a time when leaders were of such poor calibre. Bring on a new generation as soon as possible.

Mick Ferrie, Mawnan Smith, Cornwall

You reported last week that Labour called on the Tories to return nearly £2million of Russian-linked donations and I believe that all Russian donations made to all parties should go to the fund set up by the Mail for the Ukrainian refugees instead. One in the eye for the Russians who are destroying Ukraine and killing innocent people because of Putin’s warped sense of justice.

By expelling Russia, Fifa and the International Olympic Committee are venturing outside sport. I wonder if they regret the missed opportunities to expel anyone over the wars in Iraq, Libya and Syria. An opportunity remains this year for Fifa to expel the arms suppliers and facilitators for the war in Yemen, which has been more destructive than the war in Ukraine so far.

P. Madden, Lancashire

I read Peter Hitchens’ article on the West’s response to Ukraine and was pleasantly surprised to see a British journalist finally show the backbone to condemn our relations with China. When we made a feeble complaint about Hong Kong, we were told it was no longer our concern. Did we protest any further? No, our politicians slunk away like a chastened puppy. I do not always agree with Mr Hitchens but in this case he is 100 per cent correct.

Brian RG Morton,

Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire

As much as everyone abhors the Russian invasion, nobody in Western nations, including the UK, would be prepared to risk a nuclear holocaust in order to end this war. While we all support the Ukrainian people, if our lives and livelihoods are at stake, then I’m afraid those itching to give Russia a bloody nose are on their own.

Kevin Coley, Leicester

Putin is a dangerous tyrant but he is also desperate as his invasion goes awry. Putin losing face presents a threat to all of Europe and he has already put his nuclear forces on alert. My hope is that the Russian generals plan a military takeover which would include the elimination of Putin.

Dennis Forbes, Aberdeen

Boris Johnson has found his mojo and is handling the Ukraine war very well alongside Labour’s Keir Starmer, who I believe is dealing with the crisis like a leader. Well done, Boris and Keir.
