■ Barry M Molten Metal Nail Paint – Crystal Blue, £3.99, Superdrug: I love this shade. I felt like I had mermaid fingernails. It took a couple of coats to build up a good colour and actually I think a third would have made it look even better. Sadly one of my nails had already chipped within 24 hours which was disappointing.

■ Leighton Denny Modern Bohemia – Bohemian Spirit, £12, ld-boutique.com: This slate grey is a lovely shade for autumn and winter. I needed to apply two coats for a decent colour and it did begin to wear off at the ends after a day or two. Maybe apply a clear top coat if you want it to last.

■ Nailberry L’oxygéné Oxygenated Nail Polish – Hippie Chic, £14.50, nailberry.co.uk: I am not normally one for pinks preferring darker colours but this was a really pretty rusty pink, very autumnal. Two coats gave decent colour coverage and it went on smoothly. After a few days though it was already chipping.

■ Glossworks – Tanfastic Nude, £12, feelunique.com: A little bottle that packs a lot of staying power. Tanfastic Nude is a perfect colour for daywear and goes with everything. It also survived several gym workouts and a shopping spree without chipping. An all-round winner.
