BRAD Walker says he ‘lost all interest’ in football at Crewe Alex last season - but his loan move to Wrexham has rekindled his love for the game. The 23-year-old arrived at Gresty Road from Hartlepool United in the summer of 2017, and made a strong start to life in South Cheshire.

David Artell had paid a nominal fee for the player, who can play in midfield or defence, and he made a good impression in the first half of the campaign.

But in an interview with The Leader, the 23-year-old admitted he was not enjoying the job towards the end of 2017-18 and ‘wasn’t happy’ as he fell out of favour.

Now Walker is flourishing for the National League leaders. Asked if he would like the loan spell, which started in late August and is due to end in January, to be extended until the end of the season, he said: “Definitely.

“I am loving my football again and back enjoying it.

“The back end of last season and the start of this season, I lost all interest in it really.

“I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t enjoying it, I was going in for training and it felt like I was doing it for nothing.

“But the gaffer here has given me a chance, he trusts me and he is brilliant.”

Walker was signed for Crewe as a midfielder but has played most of his 34 appearances for the club at the heart of defence.

He last started for Artell’s men in early February, but has started the last 12 games for Wrexham as they climbed to the top of the National League. And he has scored two goals in the last three matches. still early days, but we are happy with the way things are going.

“Hopefully we can get a win in the cup and continue the league form once we are back at it.”
