‘GIVE YOURSELF A GLIMPSE OF LIFE WITHOUT ALCOHOL’
Photographer goes booze-free for podcast
A PHOTOGRAPHER who went teetotal during lockdown after realising he had become a habitual drinker has launched a podcast to inspire others who want to take a break from the booze.
Dan Moore has just hit the 60-day alcohol-free mark after lockdown brought home the fact that he was drinking too much.
Now he has launched ‘Booze Break’ – a podcast which documents his journey and help inform others who also want to make a change.
Dan, who owns Daniel Moore Photography in Stone, launched the podcast in May to share his experience and support others who may be worried about how much they are drinking.
Since its launch, Dan has interviewed several guests who have shared their stories and offered advice. His next guest is former X Factor contestant and singersongwriter Lucy Spraggan, who herself has quit drink.
Dan said: “I’m certainly not an alcoholic but I was drinking too much in the evening. I went to the supermarket at the start of lockdown and had different kinds of drink in my trolley but was told I couldn’t have it all, because of the restrictions in place on the amounts you could buy. That really made me realise that maybe we were drinking too much.
“I’ve been an everyday drinker in my late 20s and into my early 30s. My job is really creative – we don’t live a typical 9-5 lifestyle and I think because of that I’d drink after work and think nothing of it, but things change.
“We’ve got a beautiful daughter and I’d got to the point where I didn’t want to wake up still feeling groggy.”
He added: “I’d always wanted to launch a podcast and because I felt so passionate about this life-change I decided that it was the perfect subject.
“It’s about sharing my journey of living alcohol free and giving helpful tips and real-life advice. I interview celebrities, influencers, mental health experts and other inspirational people.
“It’s not necessarily aimed at people who are alcohol dependant or suffer with addiction. It’s for your everyday, middle-of-the-road drinker. If you struggle to get through a Dry January or Sober for October then the Booze Break Podcast is definitely for you.”
The 31-year-old says he felt ‘amazing’ after he stopped drinking for just one week as well as more positive and more energetic.
He said: “I’m not saying I’ll never drink again, as I might, but I’ve definitely broken what was a habit and will never go back to life before lockdown.
“I’d urge anyone in the same boat as I was to try it and give yourself a glimpse into a life without booze.”
