NINE-YEAR-OLD MEGAN HELPS OUT HER FURRY FRIENDS ON THE QUIET

-

WILDLIFE fan Megan Rowe, aged nine, completed a sponsored silence to raise funds for an animal charity.

The St Paul’s CE Primary School pupil was inspired by her two furry friends at home – Staffy Angel and greyhound Benjamin – to raise £235 for the Senior Staffy Club charity, which is based in Stafford.

Over the past year she has raised hundreds of pounds for good causes, including the Dougie Mac and PDSA.

Now Megan has now been nominated for an Our Heroes award in the Bright Young Thing category by her mum Barbara.

The 39-year-old, of Longton, said: “I’m so proud of Megan, she is always doing something for charity. Whenever she does these fundraisers it’s always off her own bat.

“In the past she did a fivemile sponsored walk from Longton, where we live, to Stoke, to raise money for the PDSA.

“She absolutely loved it, and when we made the donation, the staff at the PDSA Hospital showed her around and gave her a tour. She got a taster of raising money then, and now she loves it.

“She loves animals and is always saving snails and worms on our daily dog walks. She is very compassionate – she’s even got me doing it too.”

Barbara added: “She did some baking last year and sold cakes to our neighbours to raise money for Dougie Mac.

“I always try to teach her the value of things, and she knows that she has to work hard if she wants something.

“Last year she said that she wanted to have karate lessons, so I explained that it costs money and she would have to do something for it.

“So I spoke to my manager at work and it was arranged that Megan would come in for two hours a week and sit outside with the residents and do some painting.

“She absolutely loved it, and the residents did too. She would have loved to do it again, but unfortunately that wasn’t possible this year.”

Now Megan’s next challenge is to raise money for another animal charity – Greyhound Gap – which is based in Kidsgrove.

Barbara continued: “She is thinking of doing a car wash to raise money for Greyhound Gap. We have a greyhound, so she’d love to support that charity.

“Megan tells me that she would love to work with animals one day, and I think that would be perfect for her because she is so caring. She has a lovely nature.”
