UP TO 150 jobs are set to be created in the city following the completion of a major industrial scheme.

Work has now finished on the St Modwen Park Stoke Central development which has been built on the former Shelton Steelworks site.

The developer has constructed a 43,000 square-foot trade park scheme and a speculative industrial unit of the same size on the land at Festival Park.

And once fully occupied, the trade park and the associated

C43 building have the potential to create 150 jobs.

The site, which was acquired by Stoke-on-trent

City Council last year, is available for immediate occupation – and is already attracting strong interest.

Stuart Murray, development director at St Modwen Industrial & Logistics, said: “This is another milestone in our longstanding investment in Stoke-ontrent.

“The trade park scheme will counter the demand for small employment units in the region, creating new employment opportunities for the city, while C43 provides firstclass industrial and logistics accommodation in an unrivalled location.”

St Modwen owns a further 35 acres of land at St Modwen Park Stoke Central and has achieved outline planning consent for 500,000 sq ft of future development.

Mr Murray added: “We are also delivering a further 183,000 sqft of industrial and logistics space in the south of the city, which we hope to pre-let in its entirety prior to practical completion in October 2020.

“We also have detailed planning consent for a 250,000 sq ft ‘big-box’ unit at St Modwen Park Stoke South which could further meet demand in the local area.”

The trade park scheme at St Modwen Park Stoke Central will provide 11 employment units available across two blocks, ranging from 2,955 to 4,810 sq ft – with ample parking and vehicle charging points. Councillor Janine Bridges, left, cabinet member for economy at Stoke-on-trent City Council, said: “One of our top priorities for coronavirus recovery is to get our economy back on track.

“The world faces an unprecedented challenge due to the pandemic, but we have to remember that before the crisis hit, the city’s economy was in a good place with employment growth named as the fastest in the UK in a report at the start of the year.

“We are still committed to creating jobs and bringing opportunities and prosperity to the city, and it’s vital we rebuild confidence and show that Stoke-on-trent is open for business.

“The interest in this development is increasing now the lockdown is gradually being eased and having these units built and ready to move into as the country begins to get back on its feet puts us in a really strong position with potential occupiers.”
