ANDREW BLAKEMORE: “Now that was a perfect away day. A great performance to a man. It was always going to be tough against an Exeter team who had not lost at home in the league in 12 months, but we deserved that. We had said in preseason, if we can finish above Exeter then we surely will end up in the play-offs and this was a great test”

ROB RHEAD: “The first 15

minutes were all Exeter whose passing game at times was very effective. It looked like the Vale’s best chance of scoring was from a set-piece and so it proved with another Tom Conlon special. Vale grew in confidence but too many balls from defence were long and conceded possession. It was fortuitous that Devante Rodney had replaced Mark Cullen up front on 70 minutes as two minutes later his pace was instrumental in the Vale’s second. It’s early days but the continuation of last season’s undefeated run will have people taking notice.”

SEAN A WILLIAMSON: “We were brilliant, especially in the first half. Conlon looks like he’s going to be a key player this season. This is one of the strongest squads we’ve had in years. People might have said last week ‘it’s only Crawley’ but here we took down one of the top teams in the division, and did it with ease. I think Salford will win the division, but from what I’ve seen so far, we’re easily good enough to finish top three.”

PHIL POTTS: “Amazing performance, we didn’t look the final product but still made the play-off finalists look ordinary. Great performances from Conlon, Legge, Worrall,

Joyce, Rodney, Brown .... in fact who do you leave out? It’s early doors but I think the rest of the league will be more bothered about playing us than we will about playing them.”

JASON CONDLIFFE: “Cracking game. I thought Rodders, Manny, Conlon, Fitzpatrick and Scott Brown were quality but all of the team chipped in and played fantastic against a very strong Exeter side.”
