ARTELL REFUSING TO PANIC AFTER ‘UNJUST’ DEFEAT

- Crewe Alex

CREWE manager Dave Artell branded his side’s 1-0 defeat to Hull ‘unjust’ – after a controversial throw-in led to the winning goal.

Hull’s Mallik Wilks scored the winner in the 81st minute with a header.

But Artell felt the throwin should have led to an offside decision.

Artell told the club’s official website: “Once again it is an unjust result. We have played well and I think that anyone who has watched that game would say that we didn’t deserve to lose.

“We had enough chances in the first half when we were on top but like last week, you have to take those chances when you are on top.

“We had three with Owen, Oli Finney and Mikael (Mandron) but they are should of, could ofs’ and they don’t win you points.

“The performance was there and we just have to be more clinical. The performances have improved week on week and we are not panicking because I think we have good players and the tide will turn.

“We were disappointed with the goal we conceded. The linesman has got it wrong. He was five yards away, and Luke Offord plays the ball off their player. We weren’t quite right and it was 4v3 and then 2v1 in the penalty area but their forward has got there first and we need to be better.”

The result leaves Crewe 23rd in League One with two defeats out of two.

But Artell insisted: “We are not used to losing two league games on the bounce. It hasn’t happened a lot over the last 12/18 months so there are some bruised egos and feeling sorry for themselves, but we will start work with them on Monday and be ready.”
