Summer lovin’

Jase’s latest project will allow care home residents to see their family

A NEW summer house was built at a care home this weekend thanks to a team of kind-hearted local businesses.

Over the past four years, Jason Powner, of Skinjase Tattoo Studio has organised four projects – including garden makeovers – to enhance the lives of disabled children in the area.

His latest challenge was a purpose-built ‘family hub’ summer house at the Farmhouse Rest care home in Chesterton.

The building has been divided by a perspex screen, to allow residents to see their loved ones for the first time in almost seven months, after shielding throughout the pandemic. The care home is a 23-bed facility and provides both a permanent home for residents, as well as short-term respite care. Jason said: “A lot of the residents at the care home have dementia and haven’t seen their loved ones in around six or seven months. It will be a safe environment for them to be reunited with family members. “We’ve also done the ground around the hub, putting down a flower bed and some chairs to make it a nice place to sit when the weather is nice.

“From what I’ve heard, relatives are really looking forward to having a place like this to see their loved ones and spend time with them.”

The summer house has been designed by Jason’s nephew, Kyle Powner, and approximately £7,000 has been donated in materials from various businesses including Wincanton Screwfix in Trentham, who have donated

£4,500 in materials.

Jason said: “We got a team of 12 guys who gave up their time to work through the weekend. It has taken months of preparation.

“I have to say a special thanks to Screwfix Trentham for their support, as well as ‘Mr Richard’ who is also a massive sponsor in everything we do.

“Also thanks to all of the guys who gave up their time this weekend to get it done.

“I’m already thinking about our next project which will probably be something based around a local care home for children, but I’ll take it one at a time.”
