Sick match made in Hell

-

THEY are the worst female serial killers this country has seen. Moors murderer Myra Hindley killed five children in cold blood in the 1960s alongside her twisted lover Ian Brady.

Meanwhile, Rose West was found guilty of 10 equally horrific murders – including her own daughter – from 1971 to 1987 alongside husband, Fred West.

Although the Moors Murders and the ‘House of Horrors’ killings are among the most publicised crimes in UK history, not many people know what happened after Hindley and West, the only women to face whole life sentences, were jailed.

West, then 41, was sent to the H ‘Hell Wing’ in HMP Durham, where Hindley, 52, was an inmate.

The pair met in the prison hospital and formed a tight and “macabre” bond, reportedly developing into an affair, which cooled as they became rivals for the position of jail royalty.

Sir Trevor Mcdonald is shining fresh light on their unexpected relationship in this documentary.

Featuring exclusive interviews with category A prisoners and previously unseen material, Sir Trevor learns how Hindley continued to manipulate people from behind bars.

Former prison governor Veronica Bird recalls how she even managed to persuade a nun-turned-prison guard to help her escape from the facility.

Plus, he hears from reformed Mafia member Marisa Merico and ex-gangster Linda Calvey how West had bouts of anger, and still heavily depended on her children from behind bars.

Hindley made several failed appeals against her life sentence, and died in 2002, aged 60, after serving 36 years in prison.

West, now 66, is currently in HM Prison New Hall, Flockton, West Yorkshire.
