‘I’LL INVEST MY £240K - NOT WASTE IT!’
Kyle, 18, finally presented with lottery cheque
STOKE City fan Kyle Burke has finally taken part in a ‘big cheque’ presentation – six months after winning £240k on the National Lottery.
The Sentinel revealed in April that Kyle, aged 18, scooped £20,000 a month for a year after buying yg a £2 scratchcard from mhamil Hamil Road Convenience nce Store in his home me town of Burslem m on March 19.
Lottery organisers Camelot couldn’t make its usual cheque presentation due to the Covid-19 pandemic – so Kyle received a ‘digital lh cheque’ ’ via his phone within nine days instead.
Now he has finally been presented with the famous big cheque – as well as a bottle of bubbly. He said: “It was a one off thing, I don’t usually buy scratchcards or lottery tickets. I had bought another one a few days before.
“This time I was in the store buying some snacks and a drink, and decided to just get one. It was a new scratchcard so I thought I’d have a go.
“I only live around the corner from the shop so I went home and that’s when I scratched it and realised I’d won.
“I had ha to ask a few peo people to confirm it fo for me, including m my sister. I couldn’t believe it – I still can’t believe it now.” Kyle had hoped to jet off on ho holiday to celebrate his big b win, but the pandemi pandemic stopped that. He was also l unable to celebrate properly with his family all self-isolating, including his dad Simon, a Royal Stoke porter.
But he said: “It’s given me some time to really think about what I want to do with my winnings.
“I want to pass my driving test and then buy a car. Then I think I might buy a house and rent it out, then I can buy my own and the rent can pay my mortgage.”
The teenager says he faced a backlash online when his win was made public earlier in the year.
He said: “There was a lot of negative comments saying that I’m just another 18-year-old who will waste all the money. I just think we’ll see where I am in 10 years – I am determined to be sensible and I want to invest my winnings and not waste them.
“My friends and family have told me to be good with it, and not waste the money. But they’ve also said I should make sure I treat myself.
“If anyone is thinking of buying a scratchcard or a ticket, I’d say go for it. It’s only £2 and if it gives you a profit like mine then it’s definitely worth it.”
