DAD-OF-FIVE Philip Adams was caught drink-driving when more than two-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit.

The 31-year-old had been on a rare night out when he was asked to help a woman find a friend she believed was in danger.

But police stopped his car on Black Bank, near Knutton, and officers could smell alcohol on his breath.

He was breathalysed and gave a reading of 92 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, against the legal limit of 35. He was also found in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

Now Adams has been banned from driving for three years and hit with a £1,505 court bill at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Prosecutor Hayley Keegan said police stopped a Vauxhall Vectra being driven by Adams on Black Bank, Knutton, at 12.30am on August 24.

Miss Keegan said: “They spoke with him and believed he was under the influence of alcohol.

“He was arrested and taken to the

Northern Area Custody Facility in Etruria. Police seized a small bag of white powder from him which was found to be cocaine.”

Adams told police the cocaine was for his personal use.

Adams, of Meadowside Avenue, Audley, pleaded guilty to drinkdriving and possession of cocaine.

The court heard he was previously convicted of drink-driving in 2017.

Emma Wiseman, mitigating, said Adams, a lifting deck supervisor at Don-bur in Adderley Green, Longton, had been on a rare night out in Audley.

She said: “He saw a friend he had not seen in years with two women.

“One of the women became distressed and said one of her friends had been taken against her will. She asked him to take her to try and find her friend.

“He did not have any intention to drive that night.”

Magistrates fined Adams £1,000 for drink-driving and £200 for possessing the cocaine. He was also ordered to pay £185 costs and a £120 surcharge.

The magistrates ordered the destruction of the cocaine.
