VIOLENT Daniel Bradshaw ‘saw red’ when he attacked a man outside a shop as part of an ongoing dispute about a girl.

He had been involved in a social media row with his victim when he saw him in a Goms Mill shop, grabbed him and struck him twice.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the incident happened at 3.50pm on August 28.

Prosecutor Emma Pickard said: “The victim was walking with his girlfriend along Goms Mill Road when he saw the defendant. He says they fell out previously over a girl.

“The defendant crossed the road and approached the victim who backed away. The defendant pushed him, grabbed his top, and then punched him – a couple connected.

“The defendant walked away and lifted his top up. There was a black handle but the victim could not say if it was a knife.”

Police were called to Goms Mill Road following the attack.

Officers searched for a knife but nothing was found.

Mark Bromley, mitigating, told the court his client had originally intended to make peace with his victim before the attack.

He said: “It was a chance encounter and Bradshaw was visiting his partner’s sister and went to the shop when he saw his victim.

“He originally went over to say they should sort their matters out but the incident ensued.

“He admits assaulting him but said only one punch connected. He refutes having a knife and police took a statement from an independent witness saying he didn’t have one.”

Magistrates handed Bradshaw, of William Terrace, Fegg Hayes, a six-month conditional discharge. He must also pay £135 prosecution costs, a £22 victim surcharge, and £50 compensation.
