‘Ignore experts and carry on with life’

- D NIXON AUDLEY

FURTHER to the letter, headlined ‘Leave important issues to experts’ ( Sentinel, September 24).

Howard Millward says leave the experts to make the decisions on Covid 19. Perhaps we should just look at one expert – Professor Neil Ferguson and his team at Imperial College London.

These experts’ modelling forecast predicted a quarter of a million deaths and prompted the UK government into lockdown measures on March 23.

Seeing that there have been approximately 42,000 deaths, the experts are way out.

Deaths in London hospitals peaked on April 6, but Ferguson and his team are still recommending lockdowns, face masks, not being able to sing at a funeral etc.

Two similar countries – Sweden, which did not have lockdown, and Finland, which did have lockdown – have similar results for infection rates and deaths. So the truth is that there is no evidence that lockdowns and social distancing work.

Meanwhile, cancer patients are going to die in their thousands over the next few years because they have not been able to get the treatment they required during lockdown, never mind the mental health issues due to people not being able to visit family, plus suicides etc.

Over one million people are going to be out of work and lose their businesses due to expert advice.

The latest experts say it is taking off again, but how can this be with hospital admissions so low?

The government, listening to so-called experts again, have told me in my job I must wear a face mask from last week, but why when it has not been necessary during the worst months of spring?

The best thing the government could do is to ignore the experts and just say it is over, get back to normal, for there were over 60,000 deaths from flu in 2015, and what did the experts say then?

Not lockdown, not closing schools, not allowing all the family to gather at funeral if you had 12 brothers and sisters ( maximum 10).

It is just getting too ridiculous for words, with students now being told not to go home for Christmas.

Ignore the experts and just let us get on with our lives.

This latest outrage must be the most blatant example of electioneering ever committed
