DRUG-DEALER Daniel Tew has been jailed after police found thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs at his home.

The 36-year-old was a passenger in a car stopped by police in Newcastle when officers seized a mobile phone which indicated he was dealing drugs.

And a search of his May Bank home uncovered £3,600 worth of heroin and £2,810 worth of crack cocaine.

Now Tew has been jailed for three years at Stoke-on-trent Crown Court.

The court heard Tew had been in a Fiat Punto when it was involved in a short pursuit in Newcastle at 10.45am on July 1.

Prosecutor Timothy Sapwell said: “The defendant’s address in Oxford Road, May Bank, was searched and police found dealer bags, scales and, in a box of washing powder, a bag containing quantities of heroin and cocaine ready to deal.

“Police recovered 201 individual deals of heroin, each weighing about 0.1 gram, and a big lump, weighing just under 16 grams, enough for 159 individual deals. The total value of the heroin was between £3,000 and £3,600.

“There were also 96 deals of crack cocaine and a lump weighing 18.6 grams. The total value of the crack cocaine was between £2,340 and £2,810.”

Tew, of Oxford Road, May Bank, pleaded guilty to two charges of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug and two offences of possessing a class A drug with intent to supply.

Debbie Leadbeater, mitigating, said the defendant is in a stable relationship and his partner is pregnant.

Miss Leadbeater said: “He wants to work with the services to get out of the cycle he had been drawn into.”

Judge Sally Hancox told him: “Your guilty pleas indicate you accept your role as someone who in July was and would have been prepared to play a part in dealing these two class A drugs to the wider community who would wish to use them.

“The only type of sentence I can impose is one of immediate custody.”
