A VILLAGE restaurant is to continue with its own Eat Out to Help Out scheme after launching a mouthwatering autumnal menu.

The Wheatsheaf Inn, in Onneley, is extending the scheme throughout this month every Wednesday and Thursday.

The government offer ran throughout August giving diners 50 per cent off food or drinks (up to a maximum of £10 discount per person) every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at participating venues.

The scheme, which ended nationally on September 1, was designed to entice customers back to hospitality establishments most badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

The Wheatsheaf senior manager Carl Birchall, aged 64, said: “As a manager, working through these strange times has had its challenges.

“The government scheme was a great way to encourage people to dine out again and, due to the success and support from our customers, we thought we’d continue the Eat Out To Help Out offer to say thank you.

“Having worked at The Wheatsheaf for many years, I’m pleased to say that the Eat Out To Help Out offer has really boosted our custom, and the new menu is definitely the best one yet.”

On the menu, food fans will find a range of dishes including roasted salmon fillet with hints of beetroot and horseradish on a pea and goat’s cheese risotto and crunchy beetroot crisps.

Other delights include chicken and chorizo ballotine flavoured with spring onion and tomato, crushed potatoes, sautéed kale and a chorizo jus, right.

For those who enjoy a sweet treat, desserts include a banoffee crème brûlée and a seasonal blackberry cheesecake with Cheshire Farm apple and blackberry ice cream and spiced apple purée.

The venue dates back to 1769 and was taken over in March 2017 by Landlord Matthew Murphy, aged 51, who has been in the industry for over 15 years running The Wheatsheaf’s sister venue – The Cock O’barton, based in Cheshire.

Starters at the restaurant begin at £3.95, while mains start at £11.95.
