‘THE RED’UN WILL BE BACK!’
Landlady’s pledge after pandemic forces her to temporarily shut pub
A PUB has been forced to close temporarily due to the impact of the pandemic.
The Red Lion, in Stone, has announced that last orders will be called at 10pm on Friday, October 23.
Landlady Tanya Moran – who has been at the High Street venue for 14 years – will then reassess when they can welcome back drinkers.
The decision has been blamed on a huge drop off in footfall as a direct consequence of Covid-19 and the 10pm kick-out time.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Tanya said: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I regret to inform you that the Red Lion, Stone will be closing on October 23 and will remain closed temporarily until such time as we think it’s right to reopen.
“Due to the substantial drop in footfall and visitors to Stone, especially since the unwanted fame and notoriety our little town has endured, and the current Covid-19 restrictions placed on hospitality venues, such as ours, we can not financially justify continuing to trade at present.
“We would like to thank those of you who have continued to visit us and support us and therefore kept us going, despite or because of the Covid-19 restrictions we’ve stringently enforced since July 4.
“Your loyalty and custom has been much appreciated.
“On a more personal note, a huge thank-you to my loyal team who have had to work in very challenging conditions and have continued to do an amazing job.
“We couldn’t have got this far without you. The Red’un will be back!”
“After nearly 14 years as landlady, with all the drama and events we’ve had over the years it’s not time to move on, it’s just time to do the sensible thing to ensure we can continue to trade when this madness abates.”
