A NURSING recruitment drive is under way at a Stoke-onTrent hospital to help meet winter demand.

Nurses and clinical support workers are needed at the Haywood Hospital in Burslem.

Successful candidates will be given job offers by the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust within 48 hours of their application being received.

Alison Bussey, chief nurse at MPFT, right, said: “We are recruiting extra staff at the Haywood to ensure we can meet any pressures that could be caused by a combination of Covid, flu and all the other risks associated with cold weather.

“We are looking for people who may have some additional hours to spare, want a change or who have recently retired, but feel they could come back to support the NHS through the winter.

“We’re willing to be very flexible about hours and types of contract – this has to fit in with their requirements as well as ours.

“Haywood offers a very supportive workplace environment and the new staff would be part of a great team.”

The Haywood provides a range of services, including specialist inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, multi-professional inpatient wards, a walk-in centre and a variety of therapies.

Alison added: “The main criteria that applicants need is to be committed to the Six Cs principles – Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment.”

In a video advertising the recruitment drive, nurse Laura Clarke said: “It’s been an incredible year for the NHS. There have been a lot of different challenges but we’ve pulled together and got on with it, because that’s what we do.”

Colleague Mini Joshy added: “Now we’re ready for the next challenge. Winter is here and we want to make sure all our patients are safe.”

And clinical support worker Mary Arnold said: “This is your time to care. We’ve got all the measurements in place to keep our patients and staff safe.”
