MUM’S HORROR OVER DIRTY NEEDLES

Fears kids on school run will pick them up

YOUNG mum Jane Kamelski has told of her horror at finding dirty needles as she took her toddler to nursery.

The 21-year-old was disgusted to spot the syringes, burnt spoons and pill packets as she passed the old Cheshire Cheese pub, in High Street,

Tunstall, with her two-year-old daughter.

And she fears it is only a matter of time before a child inadvertently picks one up.

Jane has spoken out as concerns have been raised over rising antisocial behaviour in the town.

She said: “It’s a main route to school and nursery near the old pub that’s been turned into flats where I found the needles. But there’s even more needles on the other route I can take around the corner. There’s even burnt spoons for heroin there too.

“There’s drug houses all over Tunstall. Charities sort them out for people to get better but they end up relapsing and then they’ve got their mates knocking on and they’re all doing drugs together in there.

“I’ve got a two-year-old girl and lots of other people near me have children, it’s a family area.

“A lot of the users are hanging around in Tunstall town centre in the day near the clock but at night they come up near us.

“There’s one geezer near me and they’re always knocking on and shouting his name, asking him to let them in and asking where such and such is. He’s started letting them in round the back now, I think it’s so he doesn’t get caught.”

Jane believes the situation has deteriorated during the pandemic.

She added: “At the beginning of lockdown it wasn’t too bad but it’s just got worse. With things closing, like pubs, they’ve got nowhere to go.

“I think there should be somewhere in the town for them to get help.

“If you’re going to do drugs, at least dispose of your stuff where it’s not going to get picked up by kids.

“I don’t want my kids, or anyone else’s, picking up needles.”
