£200K POT FOR ‘AMAZING’ GROUPS
Projects helping the vulnerable can apply for grants
GROUPS that make ‘a real difference’ to the lives of vulnerable people in Staffordshire will benefit from a new £200,000 fund.
The ‘Doing Our Bit’ Community Grants Scheme from Staffordshire County Council is open now for applications from those who work with and support vulnerable communities, particularly older residents.
Projects that support older people to be more independent, reduce social isolation or help improve their general health and wellbeing are likely to be eligible, as well as schemes that help families stay together, support them to reach their potential, or help them improve their general health.
Victoria Wilson, cabinet member for communities and culture at the county council, said: “We have a thriving voluntary and community sector in Staffordshire.
“These groups make a real difference to the lives of people in our communities every day and we hope the funding will help them continue to do this.
“These groups also encourage people to support each other to remain safe and well.
“I would encourage organisations to check if they are eligible and make an application.”
Staffordshire County Council works with SCVYS (Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services) and Support Staffordshire to get communities acting on important issues.
Garry Jones, chief executive at Support Staffordshire, is urging local groups to make an application. He said: “There are hundreds of amazing voluntary and community organisations making a huge difference in local communities and we’re all grateful for the work they do.
“The new funding is very welcome and I would definitely encourage groups, large and small, to have a look and make an application.”
Phil Pusey, chief executive at SCVYS, added: “Any additional funding to support the voluntary sector, who have gone above and beyond in their support of local people is welcomed.
“We hope that this funding will help to ensure small, local organisations remain an important part of building healthy, thriving communities where people of all ages feel valued and can access the help they need to live well.”
People can find out more about the scheme, check eligibility and make an application at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/ Doingourbit/funding.aspx.
The fund closes on Monday, November 9.
