A GRIEVING mum has paid tribute to her 28-year-old son as he was laid to rest yesterday.

Dad-of-one Lee Shufflebotham suddenly fell ill and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital’s intensive care unit on October 6.

The Stoke City fan, from May Bank, died the following day.

The former Ellison Primary School pupil lived with fiancé Becky Humphreys and their four-year-old son Leighton.

He has also left behind parents Dawn and Jeff, and sisters Lisa and Katie.

Dawn, aged 57, from Basford, said: “I am heartbroken and devastated beyond words. I feel like a piece of me has been taken away.

“We are in utter shock, we still don’t believe it’s happened and we can’t come to terms with it. We are trying to be strong for little Leighton.

“Lee was the kindest person you would ever meet. He would do anything for anybody.

“Becky and Leighton were his life and he worked hard to provide for them, and they had just bought their forever home.

“Life is not going to be the same for anybody that’s close to him. He will be missed beyond words.

“I would like people to remember him for his smile and kind heartedness, everything about him was perfect.

“Nobody had a bad word to say about him, he touched the hearts of everybody he met.”

Becky met elecrician Lee 10 years ago.

She said: “I am absolutely devastated and I miss Lee every second of every day.

“He lives on in Leighton as they were alike in every way possible.”

Lee’s funeral was held yesterday at St Margaret’s Church, Wolstanton.
