‘THE THOUGHT OF JONES BEATING HIS CHEST HAUNTED ME...’

-

STOKE City fans have been having their say after the 2-0 victory at Luton Town.

Adrian Butters: I’m not a Nathan Jones fan, never really thought it was a great appointment so the image of him beating his chest and doing a lap of honour applauding the cut outs at Kenilworth Road haunted me all week.

My sigh of relief was audible at fulltime as while we deserved the win we gave ourselves a few nervous moments at the end of both halves. First half we were off the pace, second to most balls and probably fortunate to have been level at the break.

The second half completely different, quicker tempo to our passing, quality delivery into the box and clinical finishes saw us two-up in the first 10 minutes.

All over bar the shouting? Almost, but in a week when Jack Butland departed, Adam Davies kept Luton at bay with two decent saves combined with safe handling and commanding presence that has been lacking in the previous two years.

The three centre-halves were excellent and in truth with some more composure we could have finished with three or four. Jonathan Quinn: Fantastic result. Dropping Gregory was exactly the right call. The difference Fletcher, Powell and Campbell make is unbelievable. Slow start again which we need to work on, but second half different class and a fine defensive display. Special plaudits for Adam Davis - he was fantastic!!

Rich Walton: I’ll take it. Nicely done in the end. On to the next!

Alan Davies: Very good result, built on a real wall of a defence. We are looking hard to beat again.

A bit more control and service from midfield and we will give most sides a decent game at this level.

Kaila Robinson: Finally a manager that can make a positive impact and reset the team. Looking good boys.
