ANGRY Benjamin Pownall broke his ex-partner’s jaw after punching her in the face.

The 23-year-old ‘saw red’ because he believed his victim had the keys to his £10,000 BMW.

He went to her Sneyd Green home at 2am with two other men and when she opened the door he punched her once to the face.

She suffered a hairline fracture to her jaw.

Now Pownall has been jailed for eight months at Stoke-on-trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Antony Longworth said Pownall began a relationship with his victim in August last year but assaulted her in November.

Mr Longworth said: “As a result she decided that the relationship was over and she did not want anything more to do with him.

“When he was released on licence

he had conditions not to contact her in any way. When he came out he contacted her by Facebook Messenger asking if she had his car keys. He got his mother to contact her regarding the car keys.

“She said she did not have them and did not know where they were.

“The defendant went round on September 9. His clothes were in the shed. He made his way into her bedroom and called her a slag and a rat. She screamed for him to get out.”

The victim returned home from a night out in the early hours of September 10.

Mr Longworth said: “She received a message from the defendant, saying, ‘I am on my way. I just want my keys, then we are done’.

“She said she ‘threw them months ago’. He said, ‘I am coming now. Either give me my keys or every window is going through’.

“Five minutes later he knocked on the door. She opened it and saw the defendant with two other men.

“As soon as she saw the defendant he punched her hard in the face causing her to fall face down into some slate in the front garden.

“The next thing she knew her mother was bringing her round. The defendant had left.

“Her face was bleeding. She was in a lot of pain.

“She had a large swelling to the left side of her face and the inside of her mouth was cut and swollen.”

In a victim statement the woman said: “As a result of him attacking me I am frightened to go out on my own. I know he will try to do something else to hurt me. He is so unpredictable.”

Pownall, of Derby Road, Talke, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Jason Holt, mitigating, said the defendant paid £10,000 for his BMW and requested the keys while in custody and on his release.

He said: “He attended the address to collect his belongings. He was given a bag by her mother. When he got home he realised the keys were not there.

“He accepts he has seen red and struck her once to the face. He regrets his actions.”

Judge David Fletcher made Pownall the subject of a two year restraining order which prevents him contacting his victim and her mother or going to their street.
