Hitman HEANEY wins AGAIN!

NATHAN Heaney extended his perfect career record with a points victory over Ryan Oliver.

Heaney chalked up his 11th successive professional victory with a comfortable 97-92 verdict in London.

The Trentham fighter downed Oliver in the 10-rounder and there was little doubt which way the judges would score the contest.

Oliver now has seven wins and three defeats on his record.

However, Heaney had to secure victory

- on his BT Sport debut after signing with Frank Warren’s stable - without his loyal fan base because of the ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

He said on social media: “Well, that was a mad one! After a year since my last outing it was an honour to start my first fight under @frank_warren_official with a win taking my career to 11-0.

“A lot of respect to my opponent Ryan Oliver - a great fighter, hard as nails and an absolute gent. We had some good chats during the fight and to be fair we had a great chat in the hotel after as well.

“It is not the same without you guys, and I missed EVERY SINGLE ONE of you in there. The place would have erupted when I let the shots go and it’s only a matter of time before we are back again.

“Thank you all so much for your comments, messages and support, and I’ll keep doing my best to make you all and my city proud.”

Heaney had secured the IBO Continental super-middleweight title last March when he outpointed Malta’s Christian Schembri at a packed-out King’s Hall in Stoke.

Signing for the legendary Warren was the latest step in ‘Hitman’ Heaney’s rise since turning professional as a 27-year-old.

The former pupil of St Thomas More Catholic Academy in Longton won 58 of his 90 fights as an amateur.

He stepped back from the sport to qualify as a teacher and start working full time at Stafford College, teaching sport.

But he returned to make his professional debut at Walsall in 2017 and has gathered terrific support from the Potteries and beyond as his reputation has spread.

He has attracted plenty of attention for his walk-on as he heads to the ring to the Stoke City anthem ‘Delilah’ playing - and is now looking to build on his victorious television debut.
