TWO teenagers have been arrested after a Land Rover was repeatedly rammed into a shop before burglars made off with various items.

Police were called to the Mccoll’s store in Abbots Road, Abbey Hulton, where a Land Rover Defender had been driven at the building several times.

CCTV footage showed three masked men in hoods enter the shop and steal items including alcohol and tobacco. The vehicle, which is thought to have been stolen, was later found burnt out on Bolton Gate car park at Park Hall Country Park in Weston Coyney.

Now a Staffordshire Police spokesman has confirmed two 18-year-olds have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being questioned about it and two other crimes.

Police searched the area, made house-to-house inquiries and checked further CCTV footage following the ram raid, which happened at about 4am on Sunday.

The spokesman said: “As part of the investigation two teenagers – one from Cheadle and one from Stoke-on-trent – have been arrested on suspicion of burglary over the incident at Mccoll’s.

“The two males have also been arrested on suspicion of burglary in relation to break-ins at a shop on Tunstall’s Greengates Street and a newsagent’s on Ashbourne Road in Cheadle.

“The incident in Tunstall occurred at around 4.50am on March 1 while the business in Cheadle was targeted overnight. The two remain in custody.”

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on Facebook or Twitter, or call 101, quoting incident 76 of February 28.
