PLAN TO MOVE ‘EYESORE’ BINS FROM BUSY CITY CENTRE STREET
The overflowing trade waste bins are opposite Hanley restaurants
OVERFLOWING trade waste bins in a busy city centre street are set to be removed as part of a cleanup operation that people say will ‘definitely make Hanley look better’.
Business leaders have drawn up plans to remove the trade waste bins at Pall Mall, which are currently placed in full view of restaurants and cafes.
It is part of Operation Sparkle – an action plan to bring back footfall to Hanley after the coronavirus pandemic.
The bins are set to be moved out of sight to a trade waste storage area within Pall Mall car park.
Now Hanley visitors have welcomed the plans as the ‘eyesore’ bins are currently overflowing with rubbish, leaving rotting food on the pavement.
Yvonne Bennett, aged 53, from Birches Head, said: “The bins are an eyesore.
“They’re overflowing and it’s not nice to see at all. Sometimes in the summer they stink. They also attract vermin, which isn’t good.
“The bins are right opposite restaurants and, when they can have customers again, it won’t be nice to see that while you’re having a meal.
“It’s a good idea to get them moved out of sight. It would definitely look better.”
Katie Mendel, aged 29, from Hanley, said: “It’s a very good idea. They look disgusting at the moment and it smells.
“It also attracts animals rummaging around in there. I would be really happy if they were moved out of sight.
“There are restaurants opposite the bins and people won’t want to see that when they are eating their food here when we are allowed.”
And Aida Kolsinac, aged 40, from Newcastle, said: “Having the bins out on a street in the middle of Hanley looks disgusting. It’s an eyesore.
“It can smell and it’s close to restaurants, which isn’t good or healthy.
“It looks bad. It will be better when they move them out of the way.”
