DAD’S APPEAL FOR FUNDING HELP AS HE BATTLES CHRONIC BACK PAIN

A Dad-of-two who has ended up in the YMCA after losing his partner, home and job due to a chronic back condition hopes a new treatment can transform his life.

Shane Dean has been living with back pain for the last eight years and was diagnosed with a musculoskeletal disorder 12 months ago.

The 28-year-old blames the pain for the loss of his home, the breakdown of the relationship with the mother of one of his children, and a series of job losses.

Now Shane hopes the new treatment – which involves up to 17 Prolotherapy injections – will improve his health.

But with each injection costing up to £350 Shane’s family have launched an online fund-raising appeal to try to meet the cost.

Shane said: “I’m in pain all the time. It feels like a horrible nagging pain all day long. I can move my arms but it feels like someone is squeezing my muscles as hard as they can.

“I’ve lost my family now because I’m not with my partner anymore. It stops me from doing day-to-day stuff.

“Not working affects me the most because I feel like a failure. When I was working in Bentilee I was on medication which was a morphinebased tablet. I was overdosing everyday to get through a sevenand-a-half hour shift because I was in that much pain.

“That was the best job I had and I worked hard to get there so having to leave due to my condition messed my head up the most.”

The Prolotherapy injections have a 90 per cent success rate.

Shane added: “My muscle spasms are affecting my tendons and my ligaments so they need strengthening up. The injections have got a 90 per cent rate of curing my condition so it would mean a lot to be able to get it done. I am feeling good about it, it’s boosting my mental health a little bit.

“It shows there are people who care. I’ve had a few people donate so I could get these life changing injections.

“I’m hoping to get my life back. Even if it takes away most of the pain, which I’m hoping it does, I could get back into work and the gym. I can be a proper dad and do stuff for my kids without being in pain all the time.”
