TELEVISION crews have been spotted shooting scenes for a new version of a classic 60s spy film.

Crews were seen at Weaver Stadium in Nantwich on Sunday where they are filming scenes for ITV’S remake of The Ipcress File.

Pictures taken of the set-up show numerous TV crew lorries parked at the site. It is understood they will be filming there for a couple of days.

The Ipcress File, by Len Deighton, is being adapted into a six part TV series. It is best known for the 1965 film version starring Michael Caine as British espionage agent Harry Palmer.

The series is written by Bafta winner John Hodge, the Scottish screenwriter whose credits include Shallow Grave and Trainspotting. The series is directed by Emmy Winner James Watkins and stars Joe Cole, Lucy Boynton and Tom Hollander.

It will consist of six 60-minute episodes and is set in Berlin and London during the 1960s.

TV crews were also spotted filming for the show back in March in Burton village in Cheshire, pictured, where actors were seen in old-fashioned cars.

Following the announcement in December that the series had been commissioned, ITV’S Head of Drama Polly

Hill said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing John Hodge’s brilliant adaptation of such an iconic novel to ITV.

“Harry Palmer is an incredible part and this would have been impossible without the right actor, so we are all delighted that Joe Cole will take on the role.

“The talent on and off screen means this will be a treat for audiences when it comes to ITV.” The series marks the first major production for Altitude Television, part of the larger Altitude independent British media group. The group is behind notable releases such as Amy, Moonlight, Diego Maradona, Calm With Horses, Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, and Rocks.

It will be produced in association with ITV Studios.

The Ipcress File was Len Deighton’s first spy novel introducing Harry Palmer and was set against the backdrop of Cold War Europe.

To date the novel has sold 10 million copies worldwide since it was first published in 1962.
