CHARITY FUNDRAISER PROMISES TO BE A REAL KNOCKOUT!
Boxing legend Frank Bruno to be guest speaker at Caudwell Children event
BOXING legend Frank Bruno will toast the easing of lockdown restrictions with a visit to Stoke-on-trent to raise funds for a local charity.
The former world heavyweight champion has confirmed he will host an afterdinner speaking engagement at the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday, July 7.
Frank Bruno was one of boxing’s biggest stars in the 80s and 90s – when he won a WBC world heavyweight title and went toe-to-toe with the likes of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis – before becoming a popular and well-known TV personality. As Covid-19 restrictions ease, events company The Sporting Club has booked Frank to regale an audience at the Tony Waddington Suite with some of the stand-out tales of his boxing career, and his subsequent trials and tribulations.
The evening also offers a luxury three-course dinner, memorabilia signing, and a charity raffle – before an indepth Q&A.
Proceeds from the event will support Caudwell Children – ensuring the charity can continue to support disabled children and their families across Staffordshire and the rest of the UK.
Frank said: “I’m very aware of Caudwell Children and the wonderful things the charity does. I’m delighted to be part of an event that will benefit their cause, and hope loads of money will be raised on the night which will support those most deserving – the children.” The charity, based at the state-of-the-art Caudwell International Children’s Centre in Keele, has been supporting disabled children for more than 20 years – providing access to the services, equipment, therapies and treatments they need.
Trudi Beswick, above, CEO of Caudwell Children, said: “The pandemic has laid bare so many of the disparities in our society – so we’re delighted that proceeds from this exciting event will help us to support even more disabled children and their families.
“As we ease out of lockdown, it’s vitally important those disparities are addressed. The fundraising support of highprofile figures like Frank Bruno will help us to make that a reality.”
Ian Stafford, of event organiser The Sporting Club, said: “We pride ourselves on raising money – and I can’t think of a better cause than Caudwell Children for an event hosted in Stoke-on-trent.
“There has never been a more important time to donate to charity as we emerge from the challenges of Covid, and I know that Frank will create a night to remember for all those attending.”
The event begins with a drinks reception at 6.45pm, and concludes at 10.30pm. Tickets are £95 + VAT, or £900 + VAT to book a table for 10 people.
