17 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPIST WHO ATTACKED VULNERABLE WOMAN
He ignored pregnant victim’s pleas
A RAPIST who has been jailed for 17 years has been told he will be deported once his sentence is over.
Mihai Savescu raped a vulnerable woman after manipulating her into going with him before the sex attack took place.
Stoke-on-trent Crown Court heard the 34-year-old continued to force himself on the woman even though he knew she was pregnant.
He ignored her protests and her obvious pain and distress and raped her to satisfy his own sexual gratification, the court heard.
She was affected physically, sexually, mentally and emotionally, the judge was told at his sentencing hearing yesterday.
Savescu, of no fixed address, denied multiple counts of rape but was found guilty after a trial.
Now he has been jailed and was made the subject of a restraining order which prevents him having any contact with his victim for 15 years.
Darron Whitehead, mitigating, said the defendant wanted to apologise, through him, to his victim. He said: “He is sorry for what he has put her through.”
He said Savescu has family in Romania and will miss out on his children’s upbringing.
Mr Whitehead added: “He is going to be in his 40s before he is released. It filled him with fear and emotion this morning.”
Savescu was placed on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life and was barred from a range of activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
Judge Paul Glenn said: “You took advantage of a vulnerable young woman. She was fragile. She suffered anxiety and depression. She lacked selfconfidence and self-esteem.
“It became abundantly plain you were a highly manipulative individual.
“You forced yourself upon her. You persuaded her to accompany you to a place and you raped her to satisfy your own sexual desires. You ignored her requests to get off and her attempts to physically resist.
“You ignored her protestations and her obvious pain and distress. All you wanted was your own sexual gratification.”
Savescu must serve up to two thirds of the sentence before he is released. His sentence should lead to his automatic deportation.
