STAIR MAKES HANLEY RETURN TO BOOST PROMOTION QUEST

- Chris Travers Twitter: @Christravers07

HANLEY Town have bolstered their firepower by re-signing Theo Stair from Nantwich Town.

Stair progressed through the Hanley junior ranks and played a major role in the club’s promotion from the Staffs County League to the North West Counties League.

He then moved to the Dabbers, but returned for a second spell at Hanley.

Stair gave it another go with Nantwich in 2018, although he has now opted to come back to the Payaro Stadium to aid Hanley’s push for glory in the Midland League Premier Division.

Stair was praised highly by Nantwich boss Dave Cooke a few weeks ago after playing a key role in the 1-0 win at Witton.

He said: “Theo has struggled with injuries for the past three or four years. But I have known him since he was a little lad at Crewe and he has always had that talent.

“He is going to be one that could possibly come off the bench. He has to get himself fitter but he has a great football brain.

“He had a great run in the second half where a lot of players would have got rid, but he believes in his ability, and we all do, and he created the chance for the goal.”

Stair rejoins a Hanley Town side who are unbeaten in the league ahead of tomorrow’s home encounter against Lichfield City.

Carl Dickinson’s team have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign, which included reaching the third qualifying round of the FA Cup before losing 1-0 to National League North outfit Brackley Town in their replay on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere in the Midland League this weekend, STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS entertain Walsall Wood, while UTTOXETER TOWN host Highgate United.

IN the North West Counties League, CONGLETON TOWN will be keen to put aside their midweek frustration when they head to Barnoldswick in the Premier Division.

The Bears were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Squires Gate on Tuesday night, despite the visitors playing all of the second half with just 10 men.

In Division One South,

ECCLESHALL have some new visitors to Pershall Park when FC Isle of Man jet over for a meeting.

ABBEY HULTON UNITED are at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton, ROCESTER host Wythenshawe Amateurs, ALSAGER TOWN visit Stockport Town, while SANDBACH UNITED head to STAFFORD TOWN.

IN the Northern Premier League top flight, STAFFORD RANGERS are out to close the gap to the playoff places this weekend.

A 2-0 victory at Lancaster City in midweek pushed Boro to within five points of the top five.

And tomorrow they have home advantage when they welcome Scarborough Athletic to Marston Road.

NANTWICH TOWN are on their travels this weekend when they head to FC United.

The game in Manchester will be welcome for the Dabbers, who saw their midweek game against Gainsborough Trinity fall victim to the inclement conditions.

IN the FA Trophy, LEEK TOWN are on the road at Market Drayton Town, while NEWCASTLE TOWN will attempt to keep up their impressive form on the road when they make the journey to Coleshill Town.
