OFFICERS have lifted the lid on what it’s like policing the streets of Stokeon-trent on a Friday night.

Stoke-on-trent South Neighbourhood Policing Team chronicled some of the incidents they attended on their Twitter channel.

The shift included reports of ‘disorder between a large group’ in Dresden, shoplifting at Sainsbury’s, a van stuck under a bridge, and supporting a vulnerable woman.

The full-time officers were also helped on the night by some members of the Special Constabulary.

The first tweet of the night, at 5.15pm, showed the officers gathered for a briefing. During this time the officers say they exchange information on incidents and get a refresher of who is wanted.

For some, that briefing was cut short as officers were called to Sainsbury’s, in Stoke, to reports of shoplifting. They said: “Upon arrival, the offender had left the scene. Area search completed, statement and CCTV obtained, and offender identified.”

As night fell, the force was called to a van which had got stuck under a bridge – just yards from the station in Longton.

They managed to help get the

vehicle clear from the bridge, on Bridgewood Street, and open the road back up.

A tweet at 11.40pm said the neighbourhood team was providing support to response officers where a man was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault and assaulting a police officer. He was taken to custody.

A sergeant and three PCS then responded to reports of ‘disorder between a large group’ in Dresden.

Officers were called to Cromartie Street at about 11.50pm.

They said: “Upon arrival, the situation was suitably resolved by officers, who are now on their way to another incident.”

A spokesman for the force added: “Officers spoke to residents to advise them on noise and behaviour.”

A PC and a sergeant were then called to concern for the safety of a woman. The woman was returned home safely and the mental health team was made aware.

During other incidents, officers from Stoke South were called to a family domestic, carried out patrols of Longton Park to tackle anti-social behaviour, and dished out a ticket for a car with a faulty front light.

The tweets were just a snapshot of what just some of the team were doing that night, with others called out to public order and domestic incidents.

The team at Stoke South covers areas including Longton, Fenton, Meir and Stoke.
