GRINDS BROOK

AN amazing walk, with 360° views of Kinder Scout and Mam Tor, waterfalls, pools and bridges!

The sign for the start of the path is up the lane just passed The Old Nags Head pub, opposite a cottage with a green door. From here you should spot the wooden sign. Follow the path down to the river, crossing the bridge and up the bank on the other side. Follow the stone path through the field and after a minute you come to a little stone building. Here you have the option of left along the same path, or right, through the field and straight up the bank, take the right option. From here on out, the path is well

worn and zigzags up the mountain. Once you reach the top, take the path along the ridge to the left and follow for quite a while. There are plenty of amazing views down into the valley, plenty of little waterfalls along the way, and many rocky outcrops, with Mam Tor in the distance as well. After an hour along the ridge, you reach the top of Grinds Brook. Yes, you are heading straight down there! It is very, very steep at the top, so take your time stepping down the rocks, but after about 50 metres, the path does get easier. Then it’s simple, following Grinds Brook all the way down the valley. You’ll find yourself crossing a great bridge just before a small wood, and on the other side of this wood, you will find yourself back to the start. This is a good 10km, three-hour hike, that you will need decent footwear for. Not wheelchair or pushchair friendly, but definitely dog friendly. You need to be fit for this walk, not for the faint hearted, but totally worth it for all you get to see. I have a map for those who want it, message me direct.
