DICKINSON: VASE IS ANOTHER COMPETITION WE WANT TO SHINE IN

- CHRIS TRAVERS

HANLEY Town have already experienced a memorable run in one knockout competition this season - and player-manager Carl Dickinson is up for a repeat.

Hanley reached the third qualifying round of the FA Cup - their best-ever achievement - before bowing out 1-0 to National League North side Brackley Town in a replay. They will now try to replicate that sequence when they kick off their FA Vase campaign tomorrow. And it’s a long journey for Dickinson’s side as they head to Lincolnshire to take on United Counties League side Boston Town. “We can’t wait,” Dickinson told the club’s Youtube channel. “It’s another cup competition that we want to do well in.

“It’s a long journey for us, but it’s another game we want to win.

“They are doing well in their league and it’s going to be a tough test, but we want to go as far as we can in the Vase.” Hanley make the trip to Boston on the back of a 2-1 victory at Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday night. Goals from Reece Jones and Louis Dodds ensured that their impressive start to the season continued. It took them to the top of the Midland League Premier Division as they registered their seventh win in nine games in their unbeaten start to the league campaign. “They were brighter for the first 10 or 15 minutes, but then we got into it,” added Dickinson.

“We should have come in 2-0 up, but in the second half we played some really good stuff.

“We’re delighted to get the win and be top of the league, but it’s still very early.

“I want to be there, but there’s still a lot of hard work to do and we need improvement if we want to pull away from teams in the rest of the season.” SANDBACH UNITED are also in FA Vase action as they head to take on Eynesbury Rovers.

· IN the North West Counties League, CONGLETON TOWN visit Charnock Richard in the Premier Division. There is also plenty of action on the agenda in Division One South. One of the eye-catching matches of the day sees ECCLESHALL welcome ABBEY HULTON UNITED to Pershall Park for a key contest. BROCTON are also at home as they look to make the most of that advantage against Cheadle Town, while ROCESTER are being visited by West Didsbury & Chorlton. There are also a couple of testing away dates for our sides to negotiate this weekend. ALSAGER TOWN head to play Ellesmere Rangers, while STAFFORD TOWN face a tough assignment at New Mills.
