‘TO END THE DAY SECOND IN THE LEAGUE TOPS OFF A GREAT WEEK’

-

PORT Vale fans have their say after goals from James Gibbons, James Wilson and Aaron Martin helped their side to a 3-0 win at home to Colchester United.

RICHARD JONES: “Game done and dusted with the two early goals. “Opposition poor, but we still needed a performance, which we got. Hard to pick a man of the match today as great team performance. “The disappointment of Tuesday is gone now and a great week in the end with two wins and a draw away from home.

“Up to second as results went our way. Happy Saturday Vale fans!”

SCOTT LINGARD: “The manager said after Tuesday he would be happy with four points after today, and I bet he has a smile like a Cheshire Cat after that display.

“Simply put, that was a confident, class performance by Vale, who dominated from start to finish. Vale constantly put the visitors under pressure, forcing them into making mistakes. “A quick ball out from Covalan found its way forward to Gibbo who finished in fine style to put us one up. Vale kept up the pressure and the impressive Politic put over a great ball for Wilson to blast home. “Vale kept up the pressure and could easily have gone in at half time leading by more.

“It was only a matter of time until we got a third, and it came from a great cross from captain Conlon for Aaron Martin to poke in from close range.

“Amoo had a chance late on to make it four, but put it past the post.

“For me, Wilson and Conlon were a different class again but this was a great team performance, and another clean sheet for Covolan. “To end the day second in the league tops off a great week for the team.”

LORRAINE POOLE: “Absolutely brilliant performance. Everyone gave their all. Well done to each and every one of them. Happy days.”

AARON ASHLEY:

“Great performance from the team after a disappointing result in the week.

“Every player to a man put an absolute shift in. “Gibbo definitely deserved his MOTM, great goal and 100 per cent commitment from him.

“The players, management, club and fans deserve a massive pat on the back. On to the next game.”

CRAIG DAVIES: “Great performance. Our forwards have power and pace, quality in midfield and solid at the back. It’s the ingredients for promotion. “

ROB RHEAD: “At 2-0 up at half time, having created enough chances to be further ahead, with Colchester having a few chances towards the end of the half, I thought “Aye up, I’ve read this script before!”

“The visitors started the second half on the front foot to reinforce that feeling, but DC made a change, brought Aaron Martin on for Dave Worrall and, once again, the substitute scores a goal to virtually settle the game.

“After Tuesday’s disappointment, the reaction, particularly early on, was superb and the changes made to the starting eleven freshened things up.

“Politic deserved his call-up and might have been a candidate for man of the match if he’d played 90 minutes, but he’s having to be carefully managed.

“I’ve given up trying to work out our shape, when your right-sided central defender comes rampaging down the wing, it doesn’t really matter as you know someone else will fill in and the players look as if they have bought into the manager’s vision and are working hard for him and each other.”
