Roaring Meg show no mercy in 21-1 victory

THERE was cup action in the Potteries and District Sunday League with the first round of the league cup.

There were goals galore and leading the way were Roaring Meg United. They beat River Trent Rovers, 21-1, with five players scoring hat tricks.

Sean Mountford, Kieran Knapper, Jake Dowd, below, all got three each but Luke Walsh and Tom Tudor both went one better by scoring four.

Kieran Lawton, Christophe­r Swift, Jamie Skellern and Craig Caddy completed the scoring.

Two other players on cup duty also helped themselves to four goals. Dan Jones scored four times as Loggerhead­s beat Chesterton Bucks 6-3 after extra time. Also on the mark for the home side were Paul Ridley and Karl Holland.

Matt Whitter, Brad Dawson and Lee Williams scored for Chesterton.

Josh Furze was also among the goals as Hazelhurst beat Windmill Werrington 7-2. He scored four while Leo Emery, Tommy White and Callum Sutton were also on the mark.

Simon Minsall scored twice for the beaten home side.

The four goals in Caverwall Town’s 4-2 win at Queens Head were shared between Will Watson Josh Bristow, Chris Lockett and Ben Blake. While Jake Plumber and Max Nixon scored for the home sid.

Josh Sines helped himself to a hattrick as Barries won 4-0 away at AFC Newcastle. Also on the mark for the visitors was Daniel Nicklin.

In the other tie LA FC beat Queensbury AFC, 2-1. In the only game to take place in Division One, Princess Royal made it four wins out of four to go top of the table.

In Division two, Butt Lane White Star thrashed Burslem Developmen­t 15-0.

Harry Hartley scored five and there was a hat trick for Reece Fallows. Lewis Williams and George Allen both scored twice and there were also goals for Josh Marlow, Jack Cadman and Nathan Bryan.

Barbers Life FC were also in fine form with an 8-8 win over Ashbank. Cal Griffiths got a hat-trick, Archie Ellams a brace, while Ethan Fricker, Cam Lloyd and Louis Merceica were also on the mark.

In the two other games Linley Tavern and The Berwick Inn drew 2-2 and it was goalless between Radway Rovers and Madeley White Star.

There was one game in the Vets League, with City of Stoke beating Sea Lion, 2-1, with goals from Wayne Taylor and Mark Silverston­e.

In the first division of the Afford rent a car Uttoxeter and district Sunday league, Blue Mugge beat Alton, 3-0, Tean Albion lost at home 2-3 to Churnet Valley, Cheadle Rovers beat 7-3 Uttoxeter Town A and JCB Lakeside overcame Bulls Head, 4-3. In the second division, Sudbury lost 2-3 at home to Hixon, Bramshall overcame Tuns 2-1, Tean Rangers thrashed AFC Ipstones 9-2. In the first round of the Division Two cup, Bird in Hand won 3-2 at Leigh Utd.
