ARMED POLICE SWOOP AFTER MAN SEEN WITH ‘HOMEMADE WEAPON’

ARMED police were called out by worried householde­rs after a man was seen in the street with a ‘homemade weapon.’

Police blocked off St Aidan’s Street in Tunstall as armed officers were reinforced by officers with dogs as part of the major operation into what was described as a ‘suspicious incident.’

There was police activity during most of the early part of yesterday afternoon with the police’s attention focused on one particular property in the terraced street.

One resident told The Sentinel: “There’s a crowd of people watching and police cars at either end of the road. Police have been knocking on a door and shouting through the letterbox.”

Dozens of by-standers also came out of their homes to witness the unfolding incident.

Another resident said: “There is a large police presence and armed police in Tunstall.”

Police revealed they were called to the street at around 2.35pm following reports of ‘a suspicious incident’.

Officers told The Sentinel that a man was seen with a ‘homemade weapon with a blade on the end’.

A spokesman said: “Officers were called to St Aidan’s Street, Tunstall at around 2.35pm on October 28 following reports of a suspicious incident.

“It is reported a white male, described as tall, in his 30s, with light brown hair and wearing skinny blue jeans, white trainers and a big black tracksuit jacket, was seen with a homemade weapon with a blade on the end.”
