CUSTOMERS have been welcomed back inside a supermarket after a six-week revamp.

Eager shoppers were queuing outside Farmfoods, in Edensor Road in Longton, before it opened at 8am.

The refurbishment has increased the store’s size by 40 per cent. It had been shut since September 19.

Area manager Chris Leavens, of Trentham, said: “The shop has been fully refurbished and extended. The shop has been increased in size by about 40 per cent compared to previously.

“We’ve put in 60 more pallets of stock. We’ve gone energy-friendly, we’ve put in LED lighting.

“We shut on September 19. We are hopefully going to be taking on new team members. We did take on four new team members just before we closed, so we were ready.

“Come down and see what we’ve got to offer. We welcome back customers and hope they like it.”

Store manager Jane Johnson says it is a ‘much better environment for customers and staff ’.

The 52-year-old, of Kidsgrove, said: “We’ve filled it up over the last couple of days. It’s absolutely beautiful – and much easier for the staff. Before we had a restricted bulk amount. Now we’ve got many large displays.

“It’s a much better environment for customers and staff.”

Caroline Foster was one of the first customers through the door.

The 60-year-old, from Fenton, said: “It’s fantastic, absolutely fantastic.

“It’s the way it’s laid out. It’s a lot better, you can see more for a start. It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, to find your stuff.

“There’s more room to move around. It’s going to be a lot better with the extra tills on. The whole layout is a hell of a lot better. The staff are absolutely fantastic, they go out of their way to help you.”

Fellow shopper Roderick Bullock, aged 75, from Longton, said: “It’s very nice.”
