‘RESTORED TREASURES’ UNDER HAMMER AS TV SHOW VISITS POTBANK
‘Interesting lots’ on offer at public event
MIDDLEPORT Pottery will again host a TV film crew tomorrow – as part of a new BBC show combining antiques and restoration.
The historic potbank will be the location for an episode of The Travelling Auctioneers – a new show featuring TV auctions expert Christina Trevanion and restoration specialist Will Kirk.
The programme sees Will (The Repair Shop, Morning Live) and Christina (Antiques Road Trip, Bargain Hunt) sift through a family home, identifying items which they believe will sell at auction.
Will then uses his restoration skills to bring new life to neglected treasures.
Tomorrow, the team will be in front of the cameras for a special auction at Middleport Pottery
– which also formerly hosted the Great Pottery Throw Down and was a location for TV drama Peaky Blinders.
Bidders will be vying for dozens of special lots selected and restored by Christina and Will.
Included in the sale are collectables ranging from a U.s.-made 2004
Fender Stratocaster
Deluxe and 22 lots of Star Wars Lego to dolls, jewellery and furniture.
Also featuring are Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson bookends – each with three of his famous carved mice – plus Mouseman candlesticks and cheeseboard.
Richard Winterton Auctioneers, of Lichfield and Tamworth, is providing the logistics and staff for the auction, which will see Christina yielding the gavel on the day.
Richard said: “We are delighted to be working with Will, Christina and the BBC for The Travelling Auctioneers.
“Uncovering hidden treasures is absolutely what we are about so to be taking part in this innovative new series is a perfect fit for us.
“The sale features many very interesting lots and I am sure it will be a big hit with bidders.”
The sale starts at noon at Middleport Pottery in Port Street.
Members of the public are welcome to attend. Filming will take place following Covid-19 protocols and anyone wishing to join the auction event should arrive by 11.45am.
The Travelling Auctioneers is being produced for the BBC by STV Studios – makers of Antiques Road Trip and The Yorkshire Auction House – and will be shown on
BBC One next year.
