HUNTER IS THE LATE GOAL HERO AS ROCESTER WIN ON ROAD

- CHRIS TRAVERS

ROCESTER left it late to secure the points from their North West Counties Division One South trip to Ellesmere Rangers.

The game was locked at 2-2 heading into the 89th minute when Jayden Hunter grabbed his second goal of the night to bank the spoils for the Romans.

Oliver Griffiths had put Rocester ahead in the 10th minute, but Ellesmere were level at the break as Harvey Howell notched in the 40th minute.

Hunter scored his first shortly after the restart, only for Carl Rogers to restore parity midway through the second period on Tuesday evening.

But Rocester were not to be denied and Hunter popped up close to the final whistle to settle the issue.

There was also late goal drama at ALSAGER TOWN where the home side were undone by New Mills in injury-time in an entertaining 3-2 defeat.

Joe Bevan was quick off the mark to put New Mills in front after six minutes, although George West levelled after 21 minutes. Bevan nosed New Mills in front for the second time five minutes into the second period, but it looked as though Alsager had earned a point when Shaquille Lewys scored 13 minutes from the end.

However, in the first minute of injury time, Darren Mcknight kept his composure to convert a penalty to earn New Mills all three points. SANDBACH UNITED were beaten 4-2 at home by FC Isle of Man.

Isle of Man have had a productive time on the road this season - and their fine form on their travels continued in South Cheshire. Sandbach took an early lead thanks to an own goal before doubling their advantage through Jack Hart’s 37thminute effort.

FC Isle of Man crucially reduced the deficit two minutes later as Jack Mcvey scored the first of his two goals on the night.

And that strike helped to shift the momentum as Isle of Man upped the ante in the second half.

Mcvey scored his second to make it 2-2 before the visitors took the lead for the first time in the contest thanks to Sean Doyle’s 72ndminute goal.

The points were wrapped up five minutes from time when Nathan Cardy pounced to net.
