‘SCHOLES HAS DONE SO MUCH, BUT HE SHOULD HAVE GONE BEFORE...’

-

STOKE City supporters are sharing mixed emotions after the shock news of chief executive Tony Scholes’ impending departure broke on Tuesday afternoon.

In a club statement, Stoke announced that their chief executive will leave his post in the new year to assume a position with the Premier League.

The release carried tributes from joint chairmen John and Peter Coates as well as Scholes himself reflecting on the executives 17year stint in the Potteries.

Supporters have also taken to social media to react to the news.

The generally considered consensus online is that it’s a parting of ways that suits all parties at this juncture, with many fans noting the good work done during almost two decades of service.

Hertspotter: Let’s make his replacement on the same basis as our player recruitment. We want somebody young and ambitious with much to achieve and not someone looking for their last meal ticket.

C J Hancock: Exactly two years and 309 days since arguably the largest expression of disapproval against the current executives of this club, away at Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, both Cartwright and Scholes are gone.

We were looking at League One, now we’re finding our way again.

Curtis: Can’t deny he’s done a lot for the club but at the same time this should’ve happened over two years ago, wonder where we go from here.

Dr Matt Swift: Probably our most important appointment for 10 to 15 years coming up.

I will be immensely disappointed if they keep this in house and don’t take this opportunity to freshen up the club with some new ideas. We have stagnated as football club on multiple fronts, time to modernise.

Utch Stokie: This has come out of the blue, right? Personally, I don’t fully understand the job and what it entails but he always comes across as a decent bloke and I wish him well.

Harry: As much as I think he should have gone years ago and I’m very happy he’s gone now, he also contributed to some of the best times I’ll ever have as a Stoke fan. Will always appreciate that

Dyl Heaton: Very interesting. Bloke clearly did a lot of good in his time, no-one lasts 17 years in a job if they’re incompetent, couple of terrible years and mistakes, probably should have happened a couple years ago, but hey ho.

Season ticket prices frozen for years, free away travel for years

also just to name a couple of good initiatives that he was a part of. Good luck to the bloke.

Nick: I don’t think any Stoke fan really knows how much or how little influence Scholes had in transfers tbh. 17 years is a long time to give your service for a club so I won’t be having a go at him now he’s leaving. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
